In big cities and small towns across the country, farmers markets are being recognized as an important part of community life. They provide a profitable marketplace for farmers to generate extra income, and a convenient opportunity for consumers to purchase fresh products directly from area farms. Farmers markets also provide a visible and direct connection between agriculture and city. Like the county fair, they offer a highly visible and positive reminder of the important role of agriculture in supporting the quality of life for everyone.

The Menomonie Farmers Market has been successful in offering all of these benefits to our community. Since 2000, the market has seen a remarkable growth in participation and sales. Farmer participation has increased from an average of 3-4 vendors in past seasons to 20 vendors at the peak of the summer harvest. A typical market day this past season had 15-20 farmers selling everything from vegetables to fruit, eggs, meats and handmade crafts.

The market also provides a direct service to low-income seniors and families. The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program and the Women, Infants and Children Program vouchers can be redeemed at the market. These USDA programs assist low-income senior citizens and familes in purchasing fresh and healthful produce directly from farmers.

The Market is held at the Dunn County Fair Grounds on Wednesdays from Noon to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8:00am to 3:00 pm from, May through October.
