Our goal is to help families get through their immediate problem or crisis situation, and assist them in gaining the resources and personal skills needed for long term security.

Here are a few examples of clients who have been successful in doing this:

A single mother of two was homeless and in a transitional housing shelter. She received supportive services dollars for work related issues such as car repair, work clothes and child care. She first received subsidized rent through the Supportive Housing Program, then participated in the Housing Choice Voucher program. She enrolled in Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency program. Her income increased and she is building her escrow account.

A single father of five received help with security deposit and then a Section 8 voucher. Shortly after entering the Housing Choice Voucher program, he gained employment and began building an escrow account. Now he is buying a home, using the escrow funds as down payment for closing costs.

A single mother on a Housing Choice Voucher participated in the Family Self-Sufficiency program. She enrolled in school to increase her employment skills. After completing her education, she increased her income, built an escrow account, and has now paid her student loans in full.

A now single mother of two young children was referred to West CAP by a local domestic abuse shelter. She was enrolled in the supportive housing program. Though dealing with many issues of divorce, she was able to achieve raises at work, and at the time of her annual review she had increased her income to the point of full rent. She is now continuing in the program and is saving for purchase of her own home through West CAP’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program.

In another success story, a client moved from receiving assistance to providing it to others. Here’s how she tells her own story:

" Not long ago, I was homeless and living in the Salvation Army Faith House in New Richmond. Through assistance of many agencies, especially Salvation Army and West CAP, I am now fully self-sufficient and working in a job I love. West CAP case workers helped me to set and obtain specific goals. Today, as the Salvation Army Faith House Director, I have come to rely on West CAP for professional advice, support, and case management to my clients and Faith House families."

" The constant and reliable support I received from West CAP during my transitional time was invaluable to me. I am extremely grateful for this agency and the support it offers. Thank you for the help which empowered me to reclaim my independence."
