There are times when families need special assistance in providing for
essential needs. The risk of homelessness, eviction, or utility shut-off
can cause emergencies that threaten basic family well-being.
How People are Helped
Families in Transition staff members work to match individuals and families with available program funds and donated resources. This includes:
- One-Time Assistance – support for families facing possible eviction, foreclosure, homelessness or utility shut-off (in Barron, Dunn, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix counties).
- Supportive Services – help in achieving safe and affordable housing, dealing with physical, medical and daily living needs, and developing a plan for long-term stability
- Housing Choice Vouchers – assistance with rental costs in Dunn, St. Croix, and Pierce counties.
- Homeowner Assistance Program – provides housing counseling, downpayment, closing cost assistance, and foreclosure intervention.
- Community Development Block Grant – offers assistance to homeowners and communities in renovating existing housing and building housing and facilities for the future (in Barron, Dunn, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix Counties).
Our Families
in Transition staff members are on the front lines of helping those
who are falling through the cracks of our system. Our first focus
is on helping families address their immediate crisis situation by
providing one-time assistance for shelter, rent, mortgage payments,
security deposits, or utilities. A Family
Services Specialist then works with the family to develop a
family stabilization plan, and to help connect them with other resources – both
West CAP and community resources. A Community
Development Block Grant helps with essential
home repairs and provide assistance for constructing community
facilities.
