West
CAP is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. West CAP serves the Wisconsin counties of Barron, Chippewa, Dunn, Pepin,
Pierce, Polk,
and St. Croix. West CAP operates and administers five major programs
with grants and contracts totaling around $9 million annually and
employing 66 staff persons. The organization is also a member
of WISCAP, Wisconsin's community action association.
Programs
- How Communities Are Served
Business
Development – Provides planning and financing
assistance to small businesses, and supports local economic
development partnerships.
Families in Transition – Helps
low-income families in crisis by providing one-time assistance for short-term
housing
needs and supportive transitional housing for those who have
become homeless. FIT also provides first-time homebuyer classes and
foreclosure prevention assistance through its Housing Counseling
program.
Food Access & Resources – Addresses
the problem of hunger by supporting a network of food pantries, soup
kitchens,
and
shelters that provide
emergency food assistance.
HomeWorks – Provides
high quality, energy efficient and affordable housing. The Community
Housing Development Program constructs and manages new
housing for families. The Housing Preservation Program provides whole
house services to low-income homeowners and renters, including: weatherization,
energy audits, and repairs. HomeWorks also provides new and affordable
rental opportunities to low-income families.
JumpStart Transportation – Helps
low income families solve their essential job and family transportation
needs by assisting in the purchase
of good quality, fuel efficient cars. JumpStart also maintains an information
clearinghouse on transportation and ridesharing options in the area.
